WhiteLightning's News

Posted by WhiteLightning - August 28th, 2017

Hello!

I once made some cartoons here. You probably don't remember, because I wasn't very popular and it was a freakin' long time ago. But on the off chance that you do remember, you might recall that I once promised to make A Fable III Experience, the third installment of the first notable thing I ever made. I never got around to finishing that video, and it's a real shame, because it was all ready to go. I had an animatic, I had quite a few assets prepared, I even had all the voices recorded and in place. Interestingly, the cast has only become more impressive, as Jazza and RicePirate have gone on to do some pretty great things in the time since.

Unfortunately, I still find myself unable to get back to it. Despite the fact that it's a relatively simple animation job, it's also a long one, as the final animatic clocked in at almost ten minutes. And now that I'm managing a Youtube-channel-turned-production-company full time, there's just no way to fit it in. Which is a bummer, cause I'd still really like to see it finished.

So I had a thought, and I wanted to present it to anyone who was interested in hearing it. I'd like to hire an animator or two to complete the bulk of the animation work, then add the finishing touches myself and finally have a conclusion to the tale of Rodriguez ElCazorro. Having been an animator and a freelancer, I would ideally like to find a balance between paying a completely fair price and being able to afford doing so. I'm very curious about what this might cost and whether it's even currently plausible.

I do know that I could take care of all mouth animation, audio, and cleanup by myself. And, as I mentioned before, I have a pretty good starting block prepared. But everything in between would be up to you. If you're interested in helping with such a project, please contact me via private message or at contact@doormonster.tv - even out-of-reach quotes or advice are appreciated.

The best of days to you all,
Long Live Newgrounds,

Kyle

Hi guuyyyss... how's it goin?

I haven't been here in a while, because my friends and I have been making videos over on Youtube. It's weird saying that now, back here on Newgrounds, because I can suddenly remember when Youtube was our secondary platform. And the reason for the change has little to do with the merits of either site, but is just because animation takes a really long time, and I learned that I prefer film as a medium.

Still, as we've been slowly growing our Youtube channel and trying to widen our reach, I've found myself missing the community here on Newgrounds. I actually still try to visit the site daily, though I haven't been interacting much. There's always been a sense of equality and mutual support on this site that you just can't find anywhere else, and to some degree, I miss the days of being able to share my work with like-minded artists before putting it out to the general public.

I've frequently thought that it would be great if Newgrounds had a video portal of sorts, but one that was limited specifically to videos with a lot of effects and general artistry, keeping in theme with the site's animation, art, and writing focus. I would personally have a lot more to submit if that were the case. But, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe that's a terrible, terrible idea, and I'm just totally missing the reasons why. Maybe I'm thinking solely of my own cartoonish film style and not actually considering that it would be a limited system for anyone who's not me. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

Aside from that, I don't really have a point or a message or anything. Just kind of openly wishing there was a way to reconcile my non-animation work with the community I loved being a part of. Hope everyone else is doing well, and that Newgrounds continues to find its footing in this new-age internet world. I'll still be around, if quiet.

The best of days to you all,

Kyle

So about three years ago (egh, that seems way longer in writing), we started working on a web series / feature film called The Guards Themselves. At the same time, we pretty much stopped uploading things to Newgrounds. The scope of the project was ridiculously ambitious for a film school senior project, plus we were all graduating, finding jobs, and doing all that boring stuff you have to do to survive in society. We finished production on the film at the end of 2013, but there was still lot of work to do, and few people to do it. Eventually, I personally got really, really bored of not making anything new, and so set a goal of making one short video every week starting immediately after the success of our "Door Monster" video.

Now, in September of 2015, I am very proud to say that not only will we be reaching that goal, but that four of the videos make up the complete film that we started in 2012. It's finally done, and is going up on our Youtube channel during this month, and it's partially due to our amazing Kickstarter supporters, some of whom were directed to us by Tom Fulp and Newgrounds. The first two parts of The Guards Themselves are already out, and you can see them here:

My favorite thing about being done is that I can now, FINALLY, work on SOMETHING NEW! I'm so excited to start on something that I can spend longer than two days on again. I'm not sure if this means that I'll be getting back to regular animation ('back to"), but I am aiming to get A Fable III Experience done and released by NEXT MONTH, which will also be awesome.

So that's my update. If you've enjoyed my work here on Newgrounds, but didn't know I had a Youtube channel, you should go check it out. It's not animation, but it's very, very similar, especially in writing style, so who knows? Maybe it'll be to your liking.

The best of days to you all,

Kyle

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share this video, because it's gotten a LOT of unexpected attention today! Front page of reddit! I'm barely keeping up with the comments, so you know, why not generate more?

I was planning on finishing my movie and then starting weekly videos in January, but at this rate, I may need to jump on it now. I'm going to try to decide sometime today. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to share, be my guest!

Also, SUPER SPECIAL THANKS to ForNoReason right here on Newgrounds for sharing the video on Reddit and making all this possible!

The best of days to you all,

Kyle Sullivan

Hey everyone!

Just a quick update here. We've started doing a weekly show on Youtube, primarily as it's own form of entertainment, but also as a method of more easily keeping everyone updated on what we're doing. Check out the first episode below, leave us a comment or question to answer, and be sure to tune in every Tuesday for a new one!

The best of days to you all,

Kyle

Hi, everyone!

So, I've been away a while... not that it made any kind of impact, I'm sure, but I thought I'd catch you up on what I've been doing, just in case you were interested. Following is a list of all the things that have been keeping me busy and away from Newgrounds, literally every hour of every day since January:

1. I've been making a movie.

Turns out, it's a pretty complicated and time-consuming process. Now, there's also the fact that it's EXTREMELY ambitious for someone of my experience and resources. Also that it's rather long, somewhere between 60 and 70 minutes (it's hard to exactly tell just yet). Also, our budget has only been $3,500 from Kickstarter. And it's technically, I suppose, a school project, done entirely by "students." We've certainly used a lot of the school's resources, at least. On top of that, I've had... you know, other stuff. Classes, job, all that jazz. Oh, and I'm graduating forever in a month.

So yeah, busy year. That's why there hasn't been a Fable III Experience, or a new awesome website, or any other shorts or things that I've been wanting to make. I've literally not been able to spare a minute. I'm either working, passed out, or trying to recover for a bit so I can get back to working and passing out again.

BUT...

It will all soon be over. For production is nearing its end, and we will have our first feature film, and an awesome one at that. I don't know how true this is, because I don't feel like researching it, but I like to think that it's uncommon for a few people in their early twenties to have produced an entire feature film, about superheroes of all things, featuring a huge cast and diverse locations, before they've finished college. I'm at least hoping that somethingwill come out of it, and that the pay-off will justify the effort... but we'll have to wait until 2014 to see. It still won't be out publicly right at the start (it's going through festivals first), but it will be done. And that means we can get back to making... well, everything else.

And we'll be doing it even faster than before (which isn't saying much, I know. But still). There will be no school or film to get in the way. Maybe a job, but whatever. Jobs don't have homework. AND, I will be training some of the other WLHQ members in the way of the Adobe, along with a few other skills, and they'll be helping out with stuff. So that will be nice.

Until then, we do at least have this to show for all our hard work: the trailer. If you enjoy it, we'd love to hear your opinion (if you don't enjoy it, too, I guess...)! It gets pretty nerve-wracking working on a project for two and a half years with no feedback, so any input is welcome.

Anyway, if you have been waiting on us, I thank you for your patience. It means a lot that you care enough to stick around. The best of days to you all, and Happy Halloween!

Kyle

Hi guys.

I am tired. I apologize for the lack of things, but I did mention that this Kickstarter film thing would be taking up a lot of my time, and I really wish I would stop making gross understatements. We will most likely still be shooting until the end of July, but I do really want to get something out on Newgrounds before that long, so I'll see what I can put together. It won't be something so elaborate as A Fable III Experience, I'm afraid, but I hope you trust me that the wait will be worth it for both projects. I feel busier and more stressed now than I've ever been, for a number of reasons, and I'm just holding out until it's all over.

Which it will be eventually, and then things will be awesome, and yay awesome!

Also, here: I brought you all a small gift basket with some cheap trinkets to make up for it a bit:

- My interview with TheInterviewer
- White Noise Episode 26: Hitler Tattoos
- White Noise Supertangent #2
- The Guards Themselves Facebook Page (With Pictures!)

Also, here's some behind the scenes footage from the project:

Thanks as well to you all for being so supportive of my Newgrounds commercial (It won 1st prize!) and for not forgetting I exist, despite my best efforts to make you.

The best of days to you all,

Kyle

THANK YOU, EVERYONE!

Because of your support, we can begin production on The Guards Themselves!! I'll be finishing up the final script over the next couple of weeks as we wait for the funds to transfer, and then we can order all of the costumes and start planning our shooting schedule.

The Schedule

Our rough schedule at the moment is:

- Finish script
- Put together costumes
- Cast secondary roles
- Take photos for promotional posters (the ones some of you will get)
- Schedule shooting dates
- Shoot from January to March

I'll give much more specific updates as we go along, as well as promotional images and production photos as we start shooting. We'll even be producing a few shorts with the characters from the series as we go along! All of your rewards will be shipped as soon as possible, which will vary depending on what you chose. DVDs, posters, and soundtracks, for example, will obviously have to be sent after the series is finished.

In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns about the project in the comments! Thanks again to all of you for your support! You are all AWESOME.

Funding Successful!

Short Answer:

Go here and money.

Long Answer:

We have a live-action webseries that we've been working on for some time now, and have finally set up a Kickstarter page for. For those of you who haven't seen it yet, here is the project description and video:

"In a city where an elite group of selfish and wealthy individuals secretly have absolute influence over its citizens, local anarchists have organized themselves into a single force with the goal of sabotaging the corrupt corporate figureheads. When their headquarters are raided by the police and most of their ranks arrested, the five remaining anarchists must regroup, rebuild, and retaliate against those who are hunting them down while continuing their original goal of returning power to the people of the city."

So how does this help with A Fable III Experience? Well, if we don't manage to get the funding for this project through Kickstarter, guess what I'll be spending all my time on for the next few months? Your donation could be the difference between animating Rodriguez and finding alternative funding.

In addition, this series is shaping up to be something AWESOME. We're really going all out with the writing AND production this time, to the point where the final product will look like a professional TV show. It will also probably be nearly 90 minutes long. Unfortunately, we're nearing the end of our campaign - only a week left, in fact - and still haven't quite reached our goal. We only need $3,500, which is very low for even Kickstarter.

So, if you'd like to support our work and ensure more quality productions sooner, please donate here. Even a small amount makes a difference.

Thanks so much,

- Kyle

Hello, everyone!

As some of you know, my crew and I are running a Kickstarter campaign for a live-action web series about real-life super villains and superheroes (in this world known as anarchists and crimefighters) who aren't so much super and really just put on protective gear and beat each other up as each group alternately tries to protect and control the city.

I really think this project has the potential to be something great. Unfortunately, we're currently halfway through the campaign and we only have $460 of the $3,500 that we need. So, I'd like to enlist your preferably though not necessarily willing help. The more people who know about the project, the better. I'm very grateful for the help some of you have given so far, and feel bad asking for more, but if you can take the time to even just post the link on Facebook, it could make all the difference. Especially if you have, say, a super-large internet fan base or something... just sayin.

Oh, also, money. If you could actually donate something, that would be an even bigger help.

In an attempt to shoot web traffic through the roof near the end of the campaign, I swear to God I'm going to release SOMETHING Fable III related next week, even if it's just the opening scene as a second teaser. I cannot believe how long this thing is taking me, and I'm going to try my hardest to release Part 1, but I can't guarantee anything. In case you're disappointed by the idea of splitting A Fable III Experience into two pieces, just know that each piece will still be longer than any of the other videos in the series.

Thanks for your help and support. The best of days to you all,

- Kyle
